Innovator has a modern client-server architecture. Data is managed centrally in a repository and users can access the content via various clients. With its comprehensive authorization management system and numerous integrations, Innovator can be seamlessly customized to suit individual requirements – from business modeling through to technical implementation.
You can find the client and server installation files on our website. Innovator supports Windows and Linux servers; the client app runs on Windows, version 8.1 and higher. Installation requires at least 6 GB of free storage space. Installation instructions are available to get you started. Once you have installed Innovator, you can either use existing templates or create your own projects to suit your requirements. Wizards and tutorials provide support to beginners.
Yes, there are best practice guides, templates, method catalogs and pre-configured model structures and diagrams. This makes it easy getting started with and establishing standards within your company. You can also find various free webinars on our website.
Innovator has functions for collaborative modeling, validation, change logging, status reports and notifications so that all team members are always working with up-to-date and consistent data.
Yes, we will help you to migrate your models from other tools into Innovator. We use Toolbus to provide flexible, efficient solutions for transferring and converting various different model formats. Get in touch with us and we can advise you on a suitable offer.
Innovator has an extensive Online Help in the tool (F1) and on https://help.innovator.de. A local offline version of the help is also available. You can request a trial account on our website. You will receive an e-mail containing an Innovator installation file. Once you have installed the file, Innovator will be available as an enterprise modeling suite for 60 days. You do not need to cancel the trial account; once the 60s days are up, access will automatically expire. You can request a test license for further tests (e.g. as a team) through our sales team.

Innovator has two established license models to enable all sizes of company with all manner of requirements to use Innovator:
- Concurrent user license model (floating license):
This model allows a certain number of licenses to be flexibly used by you and your team. The licenses are managed centrally on a license server. Each user automatically checks if an Innovator license is available form the pool and can then work using this license. This means that more users than licenses can be set up to use Innovator as long as they do not need to be logged-in at the same time. This is ideal for teams with members who do not need to use Innovator at the same time, e.g. in project constellations or when members are often changing. - Named user license model:
Each user has a personal license registered to them. Login occurs via MID’s central subscription server; the most recent Innovator can also be used respectively. Named user licenses make sense if defined users regularly work with Innovator and require constant access.
Both license models provide quick and easy login, as well as scalable use – even in large organizations spread across various locations. You can use the demo and test licenses to try out what Innovator has to offer before taking the plunge. Yes, you can flexibly customize Innovator to suit your requirements and processes. Models & Features
The Innovator Enterprise Modeling Suite combines powerful models for business process, software, data and enterprise architecture modeling. Companies can combine all modeling approaches on one integrated platform to suit their needs.
The Enterprise Modeling Suite contains products with specific functions and notations for business, software, data and enterprise architecture modeling.
Business analysts profit from supported notations (e.g. BPMN, DMN), requirements management, process maps, reports and tools for requirements documentation and tracking.
Innovator uses ArchiMate® models for consistent mapping of enterprise, application and technology architectures. Analysis and reporting functions provide you with valuable insights and help when it comes to controlling.
Innovator has specialized tools for data modeling (ERM, UML), enables consistency checks and supports integration with leading database systems, such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and IBM Db2. You can also generate data dictionaries and data flows and easily compare differences between the model and database.
Software architects use complete UML models, design patterns, code generation and reverse engineering. Collaboration between stakeholders is easy thanks to traceable models which can also be documented. Customer-specific UML profiles can also be defined and Innovator can be flexibly customized to suit project-specific requirements and individual development processes.
Models are stored centrally in a repository but can also be handled as single files. The repository is perfect for managing, versioning and allowing the entire team access to the models at the same time.
Domain-specific conventions are adapted rules and displays for certain teams. Innovator enables definition, validation and consistent maintenance of these conventions thanks to its highly configurable meta model.
Innovator has model versioning in the form of so-called managed models. These can be used by multiple users at the same time, changes can be traced and model comparison and merge features can be used to easily create one main version together as a team.
Models, profiles and meta models can be created, maintained and translated into various languages using APIs. The GUI is available in English and German.
Integrations & APIs
You can use open interfaces (REST API, Java API, .NET API) to seamlessly integrate Innovator into other solutions, such as Jira, Confluence or ServiceNow.
Thanks to the OSLC interface, you can easily integrate Innovator diagrams into Confluence and share models with users who do not have Innovator access. A (Windows) service ensures that diagrams remain up-to-date when changes are made.
You can deploy the feature flexibly in Kubernetes or Docker environments to allow transparent access to current model graphics throughout the company.
Yes, the Innovator installation contains a REST, Java and .NET API (e.g. for C#). You can use these to seamlessly integrate extensions, engineering actions or individual plug-ins into existing GUIs.
Innovator supports import/export in common formats (XML, CSV, JSON, DDL, Word, Excel, HTML, various graphic formats) for data exchange with other applications. Models can be integrated into other system landscapes using interfaces.
Innovator uses a specialized database module where you can model database structures and directly export them into various database systems. The following database systems are supported: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, IBM Db2 to name but a few. Data models can be synchronized with meta data from databases so that the model and database are always aligned.
You can use the Bpanda Connector to easily and seamlessly transfer processes you modeled in Innovator into Bpanda. Business processes from Innovator can be published, discussed and further developed by a wider user group in Bpanda. Changes in the Innovator model can be quickly synchronized and the model kept up-to-date. This allows you to directly communicate and collaborate with everyone in the company about your process modeling.

Data Security & IT
Thanks to its central architecture and state-of-the-art authorization management system, all data is kept within your company and only authorized users are given access to sensitive information.
Innovator regulates who can access, edit and view models, packages and elements via user roles. Administrators can easily assign and reassign rights.
Innovator has TLS encryption for all communication – VPN is no longer necessary when working remotely. You can also group all model server communication with one proxy on one single port.
Secure connection of directory services is possible. Innovator supports encrypted LDAP access via LDAPS.
All server and client components communicate via ports and TCP/IP. MID Support is happy to answer any questions you may have about networks, firewalls or IT configurations.
